I have been following this forum for quite some time now and it has been pretty helpful. So, I decided I would give a shot at a little report.
So I put in at about 6:30 and fished a few areas on the Ashley and the far end of the North jetty with not much luck so around 9 or so I headed to the ICW just behind SI. This is when my day turned… The tide was beginning to come in and I anchored up just off a grassy point with a good size oyster bed. Threw live bait (shrimp and mullet) off of each side. Then I began to jig a trout trick on a white jig head and the fun began. Caught around a dozen trout in about 30 min and ended up keeping a 19" and a 14.5". Packed it up because I snagged my line up on the oysters and lost my rig which happened to be my last trout trick in the boat.
On my way back in the Ashley my buddy said he was catching spotails on live manhaden up past the cosgrove bridge by the numbers. So I gave it a shot… Sat for 15min and began to pack it up when BAM! My line started screaming. 36" spottail to close out the day less than a half mile from the landing.
Yea… I’m terrible with technology. I was lucky to find the submit button to get the pictures to upload. There will be more reports to follow. I try to go out once or twice a week when household-6 lets me get away.
I travel the Ashley every trip because that’s where I put in. I hardly ever fish it, usually just blow right through it and catch bait. I kind of have mixed emotions on it. I have caught reds a far up as the bird sanctuary. I think if I showed it more love it will produce. It’s like anywhere else… Right place, right time, using the right stuff.
