Went out trolling at 5am out of Shem creek on Sunday and it paid off. I heard that the blackfin were out and first line in got hit with the biggest tuna of the day. Didn’t even have time to get a picture with that one because next two lines had doubles so in the box it went. Fairly solid action all day however we did have to pick through plenty of little tuny to get our meat fish. Got a nice wahoo in the afternoon bite that hit as a line was being fed back and nearly pulled Jimmy out of the boat. Missed it on that bait but it hit the lucky cedar plug immediately after and we got it in the boat.
Hot colors were blue and white and every single one of our large fish including the wahoo was caught on a single blue/white cedar plug that now is ready to be repainted. Imagine if we had brought two of those.
Total for the day was about a dozen blackfin,two skipjack, and a good wahoo.

DON’T REPAINT IT!! You will catch more on a beat up nasty looking plug then a new one. Also string three or four together for great swimming action .

We were fishing all kinds of other plugs and plenty of cedar chains and other colors all distances back but yesterday all they wanted was a single blue/white cedar plug fished just outside of the prop wash near the boat. The shotgun brought in only trash tuna.

Blackfin was awesome last night. Just got around to cleaning up the rest of the fillets tonight and the fillet off that first blackfin was HUGE. Wahoo wasn’t bad either
Blackfin are my favorite tuna to eat and a stick with a hook in it (cedar plug) is my favorite trolling lure. Pretty work! Please send comments to the SAFMC opposing the proposed MPAs in Regulatory Amendment 17 which includes the Georgetown Hole. safmc@safmc.net
