Spoon and his 2 cousins fished the lower lake with me today. We pulled in 10-27 feet of water and had a good day. We caught our share of keepers, along with some barely shorts with some perch and largemouth. Unfortunately, we had 3 good fish break us off. However, the highlight was Spoon’s personal best striper. She measured close to 36 inches and was well over 20 pounds. We released her.
Thanks for another fun day on the lake. If you ever start guiding, I’ll sign on as first mate on the weekends, bait hooks, dip fish and take them off the hooks. If my cousins had half as much fun as I did then they had a good day. Wish one of them had hooked up with this fish.
cangratz!..looks like you guys had a fun day. Good to hear of all these big fish being caught on Murray lately. Not as good as being able to report one, but still good to hear about anyway. LOL
10-4 guys! There was a guy in a jonboat who saw us get that fish in the net. As we were taking photos and talking about getting her back in the water, he begged us for the fish. I told him that fish like that and bigger shouldn’t be killed unless absolutely necessary. Only in a tournament or if the fish were stressed or injured beyond revival would I ice a fish bigger than 15 pounds. Those fish are truly special! I didn’t always think that way but now I do.
Fogman put a lot of time and effort, on a very windy day, into putting us on the fish last Friday. We had a pretty long sometimes wet ride getting to our first spot. There, I had a great day watching my cousins each put some nice stripers in the boat. They had to be back to the landing around 1:00 and I jokingly told them that Fogman was going to take me to the secret spot after we dropped them off. About 20 or 30 minutes after dropping them off we were in a totally different area when the big one bit. For the first minute or so I didn’t realize how big the fish was. Then when the line kept going and going off of the spool I began to wonder if there was enough line on the reel. Luckily for me, Fog got all of the other rods in and the boat turned into the wind just as she finally stopped stripping line. After that it was just a matter of me not doing anything dumb until we got her to the boat. Fog did a great job of controlling the boat and he’s very good at dipping big fish. We got her back in the water very quickly and she took off like a rocket, seemingly none the worse for wear. I called my cousins and told them they had left a little bit too soon and then we sent them a picture.
