Ive been using my freshwater spinning reel for years but it’s about worn out. Yes I do wash it after every use in saltwater. I would appreciate advice on a good light to medium action rod/reel combo for targeting reds, trout, flounder and such. Nothing extravagant but not a cheap POS that will wear out in a couple of years either. There are a lot of options out there. Thanks.

Look at the PENN battle reels right around $100 great reel for the money. Rods seem to take the most abuse on my boat I have several types around $50 to $70 Penn, ugly stick, shimano they all have issues but I’m rough on my rods.
100$ for an entire combo is pretty cheap probably last a season and a half. About $150-$200 is a good price range…

good advice above. You may also want to check out pawn shops - seen some good setups for half what you may pay in the store, sometimes still in the package.

bass pro has Penn spinfisher 550 ssg paired with Penn slammer 7’ rod for $140.00. I have had good luck with them and landed some large fish with them.

Penn Battle 3000 and Star Stellar Lite
X2, have that combo and like it a lot. Spooled with 15# braid and 20# floro leader, it covers you well for inshore. Go talk to the folks at Haddrells or Angler, they’ll point you in the right direction.
you can probably get a star rod with a penn reel for around $120 @ haddrells, great inshore combo, i’m using a $40 pfleuger from walmart on an ugly stick also from walmart, works great for me
most folks i know who fish alot, guides included, tend to prefer shimano reels
