Good Luck on those Snapper this weekend

Due to my super awesome schedule, I won’t be attending to get my 1 fish limit.

I hope everyone is safe and gets back safely.

Please make sure you post lots of pics of really nice snapper in the reports section, I will be sure to check them while I am working Friday and Saturday.

You guys can take some comfort in the fact that the SAFMC is planning to allocate over half a MILLION pounds of the 2013 Red Snapper Total Allowable Catch to dead discards. The council collective is projecting that hundreds of thousands of endangered Red Snapper will be discarded during the closure. There is a simple solution if anyone is interested in having an 8 month opening.

  1. Require fishermen to release illegal fish that show signs of barotrauma with inexpensive and easy to use recompression gear.
  2. Keep the one fish limit with no size limit.
  3. Align the season with shallow-water grouper.

We could see an 8 month season opening on May 1, 2014 IF enough fishermen cared enough to send an email to the council and your legislators supporting these solutions. Will you just complain or take a few minutes to be part of the solution?

Let’s go Sunday, Cliff.

I will be hunting for the elusive Mountain Snapper this weekend. Someone feel free to catch my 1 fish.

I am off Sunday and monday but the weather looks bad offshore. I am off the first week in september so I will catch my red snapper then…but be forced to release them back to the deep since they are so endangered.

Thanks JetSetter! It is disappointing so few fishermen are willing to submit a comment supporting common-sense solutions that would allow them to keep more fish while collecting better data and limiting waste. It does not take any more time than making a post on here.
