looking for some good places to go fish with the kayak. I live over by Limehouse and work west ashley. Any good spots that are easy to hit in the kayak after work? Just started to try and do some fishing from the kayak and have had a lot of fun with it. I seem to catch a little more out of it than I do from my old boat. I mainly just go throw grubs since that is easy to do with it.
My little kayak is not fast so the closer I can be to the fishing spot, the better.
Just looking for places to go and maybe some tips too.
I wish I had good spots to tell you but all I have is fishy looking spots where I can’t seem to score. You can throw in right next to Crosby’s heading out towards Folly and there are some nice flats down to the right, and Copahee Sound is not bad at all just be very watchful of the falling tides! Copahee is down 17 on the right just outta Mt. Pleasant. Hopefully some of the more experienced guys will post some of the tried and true spots for you. Good luck!
Put in at Limehouse go left towards Rantowles after you pass the dock on your left (Grimball Gates community dock) there is a creek. I have yet to fish it but it looks awful fishy.
I have been up in that creek a few times. Once with no rod, just looking at a high tide, saw a lot of bait and what I thought may have been some spot tail running around. Not real sure though.
I went that way last Thursday, towards that same creek, dragging a little grey grub behind the kayak as I paddled that way and picked up a small trout just before that dock. This was after work and just before dark. Did not catch anything in that creek but I never catch much anyway.
There are also some flats, if you put in at Limehouse, head toward the harbor, get on the left side of the river, pass the first creek on the left ( the one that goes back to the outboard club ) and go a bit farther, it is maybe 20-30 minute paddle. There are some creeks that run into a large flats area. It is always full of bait. Lots of mud, shell and sand banks. I know the area fairly well. I have paddled it many times before years ago. I have never fished it much though.
Also that first creek, that goes back to the club, I have cought some good trout in that one.
sounds good to me. I get off by 6 most of the time. Most of my afternoons are tied up with the new baby in the house but I should be able to get away one afternoon. Do you want to fish or just explore? My little boat is not real fast and I am way out of shape so any long distance runs won’t work to well for me.
I am a member of the outboard club so we can put in over there too.
