Good salt water folding knife?

I want a new knife for my tackle bag. A fillet knife is too big. I just need something that can cut a portion of the tails on the live bait. Folding is preferred. I want something that won’t rust and I’m not afraid of having to maintain it every now and then. Not looking to break the bank though.

i work in and on saltwater year-round. i’ve used a gerber gator for years without any problems. just give it a freshwater rinse at the end of the day. they don’t cost a lot so if you lose it you’re not out a lot of money

That’s also what I use. I rinse and then spray it with some corrosion blocker…

the gator does hold up well. rinse and oil and almost any should last.

If you want a folding knife to cut bait tail, cut frozen bait like butter, cut line tangled on prop, cut boat lines if needed, and no rust (no steel), check out a David Boye folding knife. Not cheap but gotta love 'em; and you can give it to a (your) kid down the road.

good looking knife, but for the price??? NFW

Slack,

Come on, you wife/GF/daughter spends that on a few haircuts. Spoil yourself once.

Bench made

1986 17’ Bayliner Capri
150 hp Force

Spyderco Atlantic Salt.

All of the above are good. I use a Benchmade 710, sometimes a Kershaw Leek, and sometimes a custom.

Depends on the chore

I use the cheap rigging knives from West Marine. When they go on sale, they are $10. The serrated one will cut anything.

Bring on the 2-3 chop!

Gerber Gator…back half serated front half not…rubber handle is good for grip even with fish slime on your hands. Fresh water rinse, an occasional shot of oil. Best saltwater, all purpose knife around.

Everyone is destined for greatness…the rest is up to you.

Ended up getting this knife. Got it on eBay for $40 including shipping. Not bad for a $100 knife.

I carry a Spyderco Titanium Peter Herbst for about everything. I have a Cold Steel folding Tanto that stays in the tackle locker but its almost too big to wear in a pocket all the time.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Leatherman. They are tough as hell and come with different tool setups. rinse with fresh water and they last a lifetime.

Stainless Buck Rush. Opens with one hand. Wash in soap and water, no lube necessary. No corrosion in three seasons on the water, plus constant use in paper mills across the country. Bought two on clearance at Walmart for $21 each. Still available on Ebay, but for more money.
