Good Stono Bite 1/20

Got out for 3 hours this afternoon from Limehouse. I thought is was going to be a trout day starting with a midtide incoming, but was greeted with a STRONG 5-10 kt wind and 1-2 feet of vis so I optioned to some docks. Quickly tried a stretch of docks and adjacent marsh. No bites and nothing seen except for some schools of mullet. Made a short run and tried a dock that has been great on the outgoing, but never tried the incoming let alone on higher water. Turned out to be a good idea with frozen shrimp under a float. 3 of the first 4 were chunky reds over 27". The bite was consistent but had to work several locations along the dock and made adjustents when it slowed. Had to ration the shrimp as I only had about a dozen so I used the heads as well. Ran out of shrimp with 3 tags left and cut up a lone 4" spot into three pieces; all pieces didn’t last long and tagged out. Not bad on a day that I really didn’t plan on tagging any. Made a few final casts with a DOA and caught one more.

Total of 19 reds with 18 tagged. 5 overslot and the rest 16-19"

Wow! Thanks for the report and also for tagging and releasing. By the way, how would I get into the tagging program? Is there a seminar or class DNR does to certify folks? I don’t catch nearly as many fish as you do, but I think I’d enjoy helping out with the research they do with the tagging program. Have you ever gotten a report back about a fish you’ve tagged?

Hoof. Contact Robert Wiggers at DNR. I don’t have his num handy. You will need to purchase the tagger for $30. Do it, it’s fun. I have bad 1 tag recapture so far.

That’s strong, Hairball, in the Stono on that tide. Great job!

This link has all the information you need. From my observations, Robert does an excellent job of running the program.
