i am in the market for a good tandem kayak. i found one that i thought fit the bill (native watercraft) but i have no clue about the quality or what i should look for and what i should stay away from. I see alot of people have hobie kayaks they use for fishing too but i alway associate hobie with sailboats.i live on the marsh and would like to use the kayak to fish the flats but i’d also like to take out my daughter. Is a tunnel hull important? what are the pros and cons. just looking for some basic advise so i don’t make the wrong decision and waste a bunch of money. Where are good places to buy from?
Native- higher and drier if you don’t like the low seating position of Hobies and other traditional SOT’s.
You’re talking a pedal Native, not a paddle Native?
that’s the problem…i don’t know what i’m talking about…i’m looking for advice. i have zero knowledge of kayaks.
i just saw a native kayak, at least i think that’s what i was looking at, on scriverfishing.com
guy was blogging about fishing on the combahee and he had a picture of it on the boat ramp.
Just see Dave at timeout sport and ski in Mt Pleasant. They have several models including hobie and native for sale as well as rent. He will help you figure it out.

I have a Ultimate 14.5. I use it mostly in the flats of Copahee Sound, Mt P. Love it for the most part, for fair weather fishing.
Cons: Not good in high winds. Doesn’t track well in weather and you need to get water out if the waves get too high (I don’t have the skirts on mine). That’s usually my biggest issue with the yak. Also, if you want a really fast yak, this probably isn’t it.
Pros: Super stable yak (that’s the tunnel hull). I stand all the time. Have used a cast net on more than one occasion. Seats are very comfortable. Good for hours. I’ve taken my kids out and never had a complaint about comfort. Although, we do not paddle for distance, just fish!
I would recommend trying one out. I have been very satisfied with mine, with my major “cons” noted above.
Try a test paddle.
