Tough time of the year to do hi quality varnish work. Too much humidity in the air and it will make the varnish set with a slight dimpled surface. It can be done this time of the year, just a lot tougher, can usually only get one coat on early in the morning before humidity gets bad. Varnishing in hi humidity can also leave a slight milky finish on top which then has to be taken down with pumice powder.
I’m not talking about a mediocre varnish job, those are easy any time of year, but a true hi quality varnish job, the kind where the wood just looks wet and glossy and you go to touch it and you finger stops about 1/16" away from it on top of the varnish and where you can run a wet finger down it and it’s as smooth as a babys bottom!
