I am interested in exploring the area of Goose Creek right below the dam. Where is the nearest boat ramp to that area? Also, are there any restrictions as to boating or fishing the area right below the dam? Is it OK to park the boat on the bank there & walk around?
Thanks in advance.
are you talking about the dam at the tailrace in moncks corner?
I wouldn’t Have a Mind I couldn’t change!!
No, the Goose Creek Reservoir dam at Hanahan. Just below the dam.
The only way I’ve seen (on Google Earth) is to ride up from the Cooper River across from the entrance to Yellowhouse Creek.
I have parked my boat at the dam and took my son up on the dirt and showed him the water running down. I didn’t see any signs that said to keep off the land, just signs warning to stay away from the dam itself (falling over).

Thanks Matt. How long of a ride is that? Looks like quite a few miles.
Where is the closest boat landing?
Virginia avenue would be your choice of closest ramps .

I have no clue how many miles it is. Yes, I’m sure it’s a bit of a haul but it would be really scenic and I’m sure there’s some good fishing up in there, should be plenty of trouts and reds in there, although they may be evacuating now due to the colder temps.

I think the closest landing on the Cooper River side of the “spillway” is by the paper mill and it’s a long run from there. The closest landing to “see it” would be the Goose Creek Reservoir landing; go right after you put in and it will be about 1 or 2 miles from the landing. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there but there weren’t any restrictions back then.

You can probably put a canoe or kayak in on Murray Ave where it crosses one of the streams that comes off of it.

I can see a launch on some sort of developed property on google earth, right where the creek enters the Cooper…but can you actually use it? It’s obviously not “public” and there seems to be a few Coast Guard boats parked nearby, so that’s probably a definite “no”

That’s part of the weapons station you are seeing Matt .

Thanks everybody-this is very helpful.
Took me about 25min on plane from the cooper. If you go to the left side of the dam be careful. There was a pretty big log (telephone pole) half sunk laying across the middle of the creek. Everything else seemed clear. This was back in July so the pole may have moved.
If your not part of the North Charleston Fishing Club, Bushy Park is the closest public landing.
There is an appt complex on Old Point Rd with what looks to be a boat ramp. It’s more of a concrete slab leading into a mud puddle, but at Hightide you may be able to get a kayak in there. I wouldnt try anything bigger and you may want to ask permission first.
Maybe a little late with this but…
Like jeff says there’s a public launch at the park on Virginia Ave. I wouldn’t try it with a large boat but have put in there with my riverhawk and I see several guys launching skiffs there. I think it closes after dark and I it’s probably a little sketch about then anyway. You’re only a few hundred yards from the Cooper and you can see the mouth of Goose Creek from there.
I ran up to the North Rhet bridge in my CC and it took 20 mins or so. Nice ride and the fishing looked good. The military boats will get annoyed if you don’t stay near the middle of the channel while fishing near base.
Cheers
