Got a warning ticket yesterday from DNR

pulled back into Virginia ave and was met by officer Gilmore of the SCDNR, he was very professional as he went through our safety gear, fish, registration, and licenses. My sticker on the outboard was scraped up real bad and I got a warning ticket for it, but all else checked out OK. That was quick and painless!

3 out of 4 of my outboard stickers are sun-bleached beyond recognition. That’s good to know as I will have to get them replaced. Seems a little knick-knack to me, though, as long as you have your registration card. (which I know is just hull info)

Same thing on my motor tag, all bleached out by the sun. No way of reading it. One would think that they are aware of this and would find a better option for a tag. As long as I can remember the tags have been this way for years.

I just registered my boat and motor. The motor registration comes with a card simlar to your boat registration, but it doesn’t need to be signed or kept on board. May be worth throwing in the wallet with the hull registration. Agreed, I wold think they could make a better sticker (my old one faded), but I’d hate for them to throw a big nasty colored green one on or something on our motor for sake of durability.

Says on registration if faded or damaged contact DNR for replacement. No word of cost.

Come on, you saying a sticker is going to mess up your pretty new motor?

A new motor sticker & regist. card is $5.00 at DNR… you can go to office or on line. this replacement only

DNR has got to come up with a better system for the motor decal. They always fade and can be reason for a ticket after a 3-5 years. What i never understood, is why they dont issue you a new motor decal when you get your renewed boat decals? Ticks me off that you can get a ticket for that when new stickers are never issued.

I know DNR is tight on funds, but bump fees a dollar and give me a new damm motor sticker with my other stickers! Empower me to be legal. I shouldn’t have to go to DNR’s office to correct this when my sticker wears out. News flash, stickers wear out! That’s why we get replacements for our vehicles, boats, etc. why not boat motors?

The same thing happened to us last year. The print on the sticker had just faded from the sun and the constant cleaning. You still have to pay for a replacement…and the DNR has no sympathy for THEIR stickers fading. I put a piece of thick packing tape over this one hoping that it will allow the ink to remain on the sticker a little longer. BTW - The glue from the old sticker will come off with a rag soaked in lighter fluid. Just remember to clean it very well with Windex afterward or the new sticker will not stick.

Just buy an extra sticker and keep it in a dry bag on the boat somewhere. It does cost you a little bit of money but you wont have any issues if you get checked.

DNR is aware of the issue with the stickers… A lot of the officers feel the same way we do and thats why they issue warnings and not tickets.

WOW, i have been away from saltwater fishing for awhile.
When did DNR start charging us for our engine also.that is so absurd.
next thing we will have to put stickers on our fishing rods, also.

So let me get this right. DNR with the use of our tax dollars produces a defective product and we have to pay for it not just once but twice? I would love a good attorney to chime in on this one because IMHO the manufacture of that is at fault and DNR should be charging back for each defective product. I respect DNR but when is a enough from our government???
