Got another kayak

Well I have not had a kayak for about a year but got the urge to get another one so I could go fishing again. I was thinking of getting something nice but was having a hard time wanting to let go of a 1000 or more for a kayak to fish out of.

I was in Dicks and got a camo Field and Stream Eagle Talon. They are normally $550, I got this one for $390. I know it is a cheaper boat but I figured for the money, it could not be to bad.

I took it out this morning for a few hours to see how she would do. Overall, I really can not complain too much. I think the seat could use an upgrade but other than that, the boat worked pretty well. I do think I will put a real cleat on it for my anchor line. I really do not like the little friction rope thing they have on it.

Its not the fastest kayak I have ever paddled but it makes decent speed. Seems to be stable enough to stand in and thrown the rod some. I can put 7’ rods down the inside of it for storage if I wanted to. The forward rod holder is a little too far forward for me but that is an easy change. I took three rods, small cooler and small tackle bag with me, a few other little things too. Had plenty of room left over.

Not to bad of a boat for what I paid for it. If you wanted a fishing kayak on a budget, I would recommend this boat.

Now back to the seat, anybody have any suggestions for a better seat that I could get for this kayak?

Thanks for any input and maybe later I will throw up a picture or two.

Here are a couple of pictures of the new boat.

There are several upgrade options. I would check out Time Out Sports for some recommendations.Skwoosh make some nice seats. You can check them out at http://www.skwoosh.com/category/kayak-fishing.html

Great looking kayak by the way.

Congrats!

Got the new seat in the boat and I am going today to see how it does. It feels like its a major improvement!!

I also mounted another Scotty rod holder a little closer to me for easier reach.

I think overall with the seat upgrade, it will be a decent boat for what I have invested in it.

Went out today for a few hours and the new seat is great! No back pain at all and even my butt did okay with only the padding on the seat. I think I may do something under it to raise it up a little just to keep it dryer.

Very happy with the seat, it made the hole rig better.

nothing wrong with the cheapies at all! i have a $320 sun dolphin that i made a few minor modifications to and aside from paddling out shark baits in the surf handled ponds, lake moultrie, inshore creeks and rivers, and the shad run at tailrace canal no problem. my tailrace rig was typically a normal rod in the front holder, a big catfish rod on 1 side holder, landing net the other side holder, 10lb anchor and rope across the front for transport, storage compartment behind me for misc stuff, tackle trays between the seat and hull, and towing a stringer of shad and blue cats from the side  have fun!
