Got my 1st Red OTF!

This was one of my major goals for the year and I finally got it, under the wire, on 12/30. It was awesome. I found a little school in about 8" of water. Initially had them spooked but I staked out and waited for them to settle a bit. Used a black/red fly with very little weight. Cast right into a group of about 3 fish. Stripped twice and came tight to this one @ 21". Pic not too great because I was solo and had to use the cell phone cam on a timer.

Good Job! I think the photo is remarkable considering how you had to take it.

Congratulations. Now you are hooked forever. I managed one last red of the year on the 31st on a mudd minnow pattern I tie.

Thanks guys. JohnH - You are the master, I’ve been admiring your posts for quite a while now. I’m really pumped to catch more now!

I don’t know about all that, but I had a pretty lucky year on the wading flats. Just wait until you catch a tailing fish on a wading flat…then you will really be hooked.

I’m still working on that. I’ve been stalking for a couple years now w/ no love. I didn’t get to get out much this past year and when I did I did not see any tails. Only saw 1 all year and couldn’t get close enough for a shot at it. I’m definitely looking forward to hooking my first tailer for sure…

Good on you man. Congrats. I second what John said about the tailers…
