Got Red Snapper? Win a Yeti.

DNR is asking for anyone who catches red snapper during this weekend’s mini season to please allow us to sample your fish.

Those folks that provide fish for sampling will be entered into a drawing to win a Yeti cooler.

If you are coming back in through Charleston Harbor and have red snapper, drop by the Marine Center at Ft. Johnson anytime between 2-7pm Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Actual sampling will be done at the boat slip, so if you decide to come by car, come through the front gate and go to the back of the complex.

Here’s the link on the DNR website for sampling at Ft. Johnson. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/marine/onsitesampling.html

We have a number of freezers available where you can also drop off your fish carcasses. Those details can be found here. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/marine/carcassdropoff.html

Odds of winning the cooler? Last year, between the carcass drop off program and on site sampling, we sampled 33 fish.

Appreciate any help with this effort!

That’s a pretty cool incentive program. Glad to see you guys are doing this!

This is excellent, thanks for what you do Robert.

I won’t be passing that way, but I think it’s great that SC DNR does that:sunglasses:

Doesn’t the DNR already know what snapper tastes like? Why do they want to eat ours

No, they are almost extinct. None of the young college grads now know what they taste like, or how to catch them
