The chief officer I spoke with this morning was well aware of the actual law, he wasn't sure why his guys didn't know it but I bet they do now!

I have heard of a lot of drownings but never one with a life vest on </font id=“Comic Sans MS”></font id=“size6”>

hey no yelling man, i just got hearing aids:smiley:

i have been to many drownings in my EMS career and 4 have been to people with type II pfd’s…so i’m not a big fan of them…too much effort to keep your head above water…we (sea tow) always wear type V’s when working and i just picked up a type V with type I properties (2 bladders)…type I’s are the only way to go…but they do have their drawbacks…bulky and thats why most people won’t wear em…me personally, would like to see every kid regardless of age in a pfd…

When I was a Coastie conducting boardings not only were we trained and tested in classes on the rules/regs , but we carried this handy little book we called the “job aid”. In it were all of the regs etc broken down by vessell type/length. Made boardings much smoother and was a really useful tool for educating the public on requirements because we could actually show the boaters what we were talking about. To my knowledge I only had to terminate 2 or 3 outings because of absolute gross negligence. Mostly we would just write up a “you need this” advisory and be on our way. Guess things have changed since the 80’s and early 90’s.I’ve still got that job aid somewhere.

So, what came of this? Did you get a ticket?; get it rescinded? Inquiring minds want to know.

I think what came of this is that the people on the coast guard boat are aware of the ACTUAL law now and not confused anymore.

they got the monkey from the heat

Was going fishing with a buddy and 11 year old Stepson a few weeks back. I asked the boy if he needed a PFD or should I go by him one. He quoted me the USCG Regulation (at least the one that CaptFritz has) Boats under 16’ etc. How does an 11 year old boy remember this but the Coasties cant? Besides, I carry 3 pfds on the boat at all time.
