70 hp evinrude idles fine but put it in gear and it starts to shake back and forth. Give it the gas and it doesn’t want to run. It will bog down and won’t run out. Prop has a slight bend on the tip of one blade but that shouldn’t matter. I can keep bumping the choke and get it on plane but it won’t stay there.
eeek…hope the shaft aint bent.

You didn’t say what year but I had a similar problem with an old Johnson 70. When you put the boat in gear and push the throttle forward, there is an arm that also moves the ignition advance. If that becomes disconnected it will bog down as you describe.
Good luck
Had the sam prob with a 80’s model. MSC is right on. The link and sinc throttle arms need to be reset by the book. I did that and mine ran like a new one.

The carbs are in sinc with each other. Took air cover off and checked. All 3 flaps are completely closed at idle and wide open and perfectly horizontal at full throttle. Have checked for wobble in prop shaft but can’t see any. MSC it is an 84 model. I know it is hard to diagnose like this but neighbor is trying really hard not to take it to shop. Know what arm you are talking about and it moves. Be nice if someone with more knowledge could take a short test ride with me one afternoon or on a weekend. Thanks for the responses.
First thing I would do is pull the plug wires and check the tips of the plug. If they are clean and have good connection, then I would pull the plugs and check the other ends. Years ago, I had the gap on one close on me out on the water. Once I replaced the plug, it ran fine for years.
Two other easy checks are the battery terminals for good connection and change the water fuel seperator filter if it’s been over six months.
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

Sounds like a carb issue, pushing the choke is a common test for the carbs. I would remove them and go thru them, you will find an issue.
