After a busy last weekend (vasectomy and family snow trip to NC), I couldn’t pull the trigger on fishing Monday on Lake Atlantic due to being sore and just plain, old worn out. As Monday rolls around, I couldn’t stop looking at the awesome weather for Tuesday as well. So, I quit my crying and made a few calls. “Nope. Love to, but can’t. Wish I could.” That’s all I heard from my normal group of buddies. So, I called up Sellsfish to see if he was game, “Yep!”
We met up at Remley’s at 6:30am and shortly after loading up the 197SF, Sellsfish, PP, and myself were cruising out. It didn’t take long to make it out to 90’ as we dodged sea ducks and countless schools of bait and bonitas along the way. We never really squatted down hard on any spot during the day, but bounced around from spot to spot filling the bag with various and familiar suspects. My goal for the day was for my buddy, PP, to have an awesome first time experience offshore bottom fishing. For me to focus more on listening and learning from an experienced fisherman than to put xxx number of lbs. in the boat. That said, we caught fish and caught fish and caught more fish despite the PP’s attempt to catch and release throughout the day. It was an awesome adventure and trip on Lake Atlantic. My only regret was not taking more pictures, but we just seemed too busy most of the day, .
So, one of the highlights of the trip was when Sells and I dropped down and got bowed up by 2 nice snappers. I’d call them endangered, but we vented and safely released, ahhh, never-mind! So, mine and Sells fish head back down, but were stubborn and wanted to hang by the boat. In a second, I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears. Sells starts barking out orders to me…buoy on the anchor rope…“I left my Sea-qualizer”…sabiki’s? Before I knew what had happened, the boat was on top of those snapper and PP safely secured them in the water like an old salt. Sells already had rigged up something with bank sinkers and light line and before I could say "what t
Dang it son!!! TEACH ME!!! Going out Sunday on the early forecast Sells, just sayin! I’ll be at the boat show all day Saturday and plan is to stay the night and fish from 7am-1pm Sunday if the seas cooperate.

I may even make an appearance if possible @ the oyster roast. Depends on what time the wives head home from the Boat Show. I’ve contemplated if enough time was allotted possibly making a quick evening run out 10-15 miles to stock up a little on BSB.
Wow what do you think those snappers weighed, and props on a proper release, I was just thinking earlier today that I should touch up on my venting and other offshore release techniques. Way to put it down for the little guys in the “mosquito fleet”. You can’t beat a good day on the water or learning first hand from one of the best.
18 and 30 pounds, but what do I know. If you really care about releasing fish the correct way, you will buy a Seaqualizer. I had left mine on a friends boat but after using it on scores of fish, there is no better way to release one. No more poking holes in fish with needles are knives. Just attach like a Boga grip, and send them down with a heavy weight and it will automatically release at 50 feet, 100 feet, or 150 feet. Well worth the $49 investment
