So, I’ve been wanting to go, just to see if the stripers are stacking up again despite the warmer “Charleston” weather. Without any good reports being heard, I had to give it a shot. So, this report is for all those who’ve been checking it out and not posting or wanting to know what’s going on with the stripers. Had the boat wet with striper virgin, Mr. Keys, by 10:30pm. Cruised around the dam area in the 62 degree water looking for bait balls or some activity. After a brief 10 minutes of scouting, put the baits out despite not seeing what I was hoping to see. Worked around for about 30 minutes and finally had a short strike, drag pull, and release. Ended up deciding to grind it out which paid off in the end. While fishing, we were harassed and even high-beamed by Santee Cooper’s finest yet again! That’s still a joke!!! Anyhoo, had the boat was back on the trailer by 1:30am and we were heading home with scuffed up thumbs and pumped up egos. All I can say is that in my opinion it is still early. If you are willing to work for them, then there are some fish to play with, but you’ve got to work for them. On the way home, we got stopped by SCDNR on Highway 52 while towing the boat. We had the boat searched and after he looked into the cooler, he realized that there was no reason to measure the pigs in there .
