Got2Go...2/7/15 Good day, but humbled

Finally had a good weather window on an off day, so I made the call to Northchucky, Mattie Ice, and Big Fish Randy. The ‘ol Got2Go was cold that morning, but as the key turned, the Yamaha purred at 5:30am in the morning ready to roar. Cleared the rocks and if it wasn’t for the GPS I would have thought we were in the ICW. Amazed at the ocean, I adjusted the tabs and in no time, the 197SF with 4 grown men and loaded down, was making way @ 41mph. It wasn’t Freeman style, but was happy nonetheless. We started fishing shortly after the sun said good morning. It didn’t take long to have the floor covered in red, gray, and brown fish, . Artificials or bait, it didn’t seem to matter. With an oyster roast at 5pm for me, we had to get going. So, with good eats on board and a fish box getting jammed, we started heading inshore around 10am to grab some knotheads for good measure. Wowsers, I could not find the stinking sea bass! Really, I worked some pretty reliable spots all the way in to 45ft for the next 4hrs as we made way back in. I’m still baffled as we ended up with 2 15" seabass. I guess that is why they call it fishing. It’s still baffling to me as I’ve had the best year of fishing for me ever, but the sea bass have eluded me much of it. But, in the end, we made it back to the hill and I made it to a killer oyster roast! Highlights of the day were Mattie Ice slinging multiple doubles of triggers over the rail…Northchucky doing some product testing for the Boca 80 on a jumbo shark…Big Fish Randy slinging 4lb b-liners over the rail like Greg Hackney…Great safe trip with some good fellas fo’ sho’!

Thanks for that, but left it on 16 all day.

Nice report! I need to find your secret for avoiding the sea bass
Sounds like a great day!

What depth were you fishing? We fished in 90 feet Saturday and couldn’t hook anything but seabass. Caught our limit quickly and tried for some other species with no luck.

We went yesterday to 4KI and only caught about 20 or 30 BSB combined with 6 keepers. I thought it was weird also that they weren’t that thick. Only managed 2 sheeps and a few ringtails and porgies.

PM sent also.

You’re fishing spots that the c bass pots have been on lately if you’re in 50-60ft and not getting them right now. That’s one advantage the artificial reefs will have over a lot of live bottom right now. They can’t put the c bass pots on the stuff at the DNR reefs.

Great trip! Trigger ceviche is back on the menu.

After that shark encounter, I am gonna be eyeing a boca 80! That was an impressive feat for sure.

Thanks again -

We smacked em in 90’ Saturday and caught our limit of vermillions on the same piece of structure. Just had to bring it up off the bottom about 15-20’

What was your water temp? That’s probably the difference. 45’ is probably getting pretty cool this time of year.

Sounds like fun, Andy. We had a fun trip on slick water.
