Got2Go 4/12/14 Finally pulled the Trigger

Finally, after all of the stress and work to get the “new” Got2Go ready, it happened. It sounds silly to say this, but thanks to all who helped, especially Lars with O-Sea-D Boatworks and Phin for the boat selection and all sorts of stuff. Had the ‘ol Got2Go wet and loaded down around 6am with Mr. Keys, A-Train, and Mattie Ice. The plan for the day was to take it easy early and kinda close in to make sure the boat and crew were ready for action. Catch a few bottom fish and then troll for green fish from around 2pm until dark. Dropped lines in around 7:30 and by 8am we were heading out a little further with some of those big blue-headed cbass. It wasn’t long after our next stop that I could sense the crew and boat were ready for some serious action so we pushed out. Got to a newer area that I’ve been wanting to try and after looking around we found what we wanted. For the next 1-2hrs it was a fire drill on the boat with everyone slinging in fish, especially, our favorite, Mr. Trigger. I’m still puzzled why we even left, but the crew supported me in our trolling effort. Headed out to the ledge to find lots of life and schools of bait. Trolled around for about an hour without a bite, but then had to call our trolling effort off due to some unforseen events that happened,. So, we headed back in to pack the box even more,. Located another area, [:0], and watched Mr. Keys , now Mr. Trigger and A-Train, lay the smack down on the triggers, again! Ran in as the sun was setting with a box of fish at 40mph. A great day on the water that the Lord blessed us with fo’ sho’! Thanks guys for your patience with me and all of your hard work yesterday fishing and today cleaning. I hope this is just the start of many great trips on the Got2Go this year.

47 Triggers
Limits of cbass, b-liners, and other stuff

I gotta say I was really blessed to be a part of the Got2Go III’s maiden voyage. Captain put us on the fish and we had a good safe trip and broke in the new boat

ocean was FLAT:

Trigger time!

Fish were suspended around 20 ft off the bottom and I was able to hook up on double triggers suspended a BUNCH of times. ive read a lot about that over the past year and it was very rewarding to see it work. killer action and caught some serious sized footballs in addition to the trggers. little jigging rod and a 6000 series spinning reel was the ticket :stuck_out_tongue:

FINALLY got to fish with my buddy mhebbard which was a bonus. can’t wait to go again! couldn’t ask for a better trip or crew

a-train has the pictures of the trigger haul on his phone so ill post em later

Amen on the fine job. That makes me envious.
Not many fish can beat the taste of Triggers.
PITA to clean, but well worth it.

triggers aint that bad to clean, ill gladly clean them. ol lynnmcd taught me a couple of years ago, a little practice makes perfect

I learned from the triggaman himself this past weekend - just need 2 knives! (One to get through the hide, one to fillet)

2 of us cleaned 60 of them Monday…got pretty good at it except for that one line of bones…pan fried some last night, man is that chit good…

Triggerfish is my favorite fish to turn into ceviche. It holds up very well in the dish since the meat is so firm.

Coastal Prints - Custom Fish Prints! You catch it, I print it. Visit www.coastal-prints.com to view other prints that I have done.

If I want to keep the fillet whole, I just pull out the line of vertical bones with a small pair of needle nose pliers just prior to cooking.

Sounds like I’m doing it right. I use one knife with a real keen point to peirce the skin and cut through the skin from the head to the tail, following right along the bones. Then I switch to a larger fillet knife with a sweeping blade. I “roll” the meat up as I cut along the bones. Just takes a few minutes and the “hide” is super tough. Well worth it though! I’ll let Paul show me how the Pros do it. You’ve heard the old expression…You quit learning when you’re dead.

Paul taught me and let me just say…WOW.
I also have learned to cook them whole. Skin comes off like a clam shell. I use an injector in several soft places to shoot butter and EVVO steeped in garlic through some soft spots. Flavors the meat great. Put it on a nice hot grill and Viola!

Umm, you gonna eat that?
