So, after yesterday how could I resist the temptation to go back. I called up Mr. Keys and Mr. Limit (this is my father who just rides along and let’s his limit get caught, [:0])) to see if they were up for it. Mr. Limit said, “it sure looks windy” and I told him the Pioneer will eat that stuff up. Sure enough, we left this morning and hit the ocean to find a gusty wind, but the 'ol Got2Go pushed through like a hot knife in butter. That Pioneer 197 is amazing, but so was the fishing again today. It wasn’t but 15 minutes into the trip when I got rocked. Few minutes later, cobia fist pumps over the 35#. We kept playing around and then Mr. Keys got angry with the trash talking and hooks up. Another nice one in the box. The fishing slowed, so we kept moving and looking. Suddenly, Mr. Keys sets the hook like Roland Martin and a few minutes later I was like, “Oh son”. Our final fish, a fat girl 40+ is in the box, [:I] (my little girl wanted that there).
So, with three in the box and now almost 11am it was time to head back in despite the fish biting due to a pool date with my daughter. Great day on the water with good buddies. Family boat day in the morning then back at it Thursday. 71 degree water and artificials on or near the bottom. Baits on top are great and all at certain times, but right now fish are jammed full of crabs. Imitate the crabs is the advice I would give right now.
Today was awesome, that’s all I really need to say. Thanks again Andy, those were the first 2 cobia I’ve ever caught, thanks for taking me.
I messed around and caught this one:
