Got2Go 7/12/12 Messing Around in the Harbor

Well, after almost 8 weeks of work, work, work, I finally found a small window to fish this morning. So, I called my old buddy Brian and new partner in fishing crime, Derek. Started the morning off with someone running a few minutes behind, but couldn’t penalize them as I realized that I didn’t even have a new license. Wowsers! Pull in to the gas station around 5:30a only to have Derek realize that his jacket with his wallet and keys were gone. Wowsers and strike 2! So, I drop off Brian with the boat at Remley’s only to have him call me moments later, “the trout are blowing up the topwater”. Great, as Derek and I speed down 526 heading back to Hanahan. So, we start back, re-tracing our tracks and low and behold, there is his jacket in the emergency lane of 526 with his keys and wallet. Phew! Now, off to Remley’s to salvage our day. Pull up and B has the boat waiting on us. Trout slowed at first spot, so we run and gun as the sun is already up. Derek loses a fatty on a spook pretty quick, but the bite has died. Time to hit the reds as the tide is dropping fast. Loaded up the livewell with all of all things, 3" pinfish and a few mullet and off we went. So, as I’m trying to show everyone what to do, Derek brings in a nice trout. Then, we found the reds and it was on like donkey kong for the next 45 minutes. Our tide window was departing on the reds, so B starts slinging a jerkbait like Bill Dance. Wham, the ladyfish bite is on. Right as we are fixing to leave, this ladyfish does the tarpon dance and impales B with a #6 treble past the barb and into his wrist. I broke out the 60# mono and popped it out, strike 3!
Headed in to try one more spot for a flounder, but another fat red stopped me cold. Back home by 11:30, smoking ribs by 1pm. Great day on the water with a bunch of buddies.

Nice read. Way to persevere.

Glad the Fish Gods paid you back. When it rains it pours but finding that jacket was a stroke of luck!

Just like all of trips in the past…ALWAYS some unexpected excitement. I would’nt have it any other way and thanks for the quick surgery again. It still has a good bit of bruising there but all is good. Nice meeting you Mr Keys and enjoyed fishing with you.

yessir we will do it again soon hopefully!
