Northchucky and I gambled on a weather window this morning in the Pioneer 197sf. When I awoke at 4am and saw that the window was closed, we discussed it and chose to try it anyway, [:0]. Left Remley’s around 7am and had the livewell filled up with cigars and hardtails in no time despite the sloppy ocean. You know it’s going to be a long day when your bait is swimming on the floor. Our ride wasn’t too bad, but we played it safe and stayed within site of the bridge. It didn’t take long before D was in a tug of war. Rocks got the braid and line went slack. Seconds later, I get a decent gag on a jig. Another drift, another gag by D. Ocean really nasty now. We said it was time to go, but not before D holds it to an AJ close to 50lbs on the bent butt. Thanks Long Enuff for that Hot Rodded BEAST!
Took our time going back in, but back I by 1pm. Maybe October will bring calmer seas?
Hope you are right about October. Glad you finally got to put a little load test on the reel.

You can see the bridge from 20 miles out some days NikkiB. I don’t think the hardtails and cigars or the gags were at the jetties!

I’ll send you a pic of the Rapala X-Rap that got destroyed. We were trolling on the way in around 8kts with it on the bent butt and beast set-up. Reel starts screaming and D locks it down, all the way down. Few minutes later a 50lb AJ at the boat with mangled plug. Plug couldn’t handle all that drag and power, lol! Fish all sloshing around still green and all. No match for da beast!
