It’s been soooooo long since my last report, I’ve almost forgot how to do one. Got up with Mr. Keys yesterday to capitalize on the “cold front”. The game plan was to leave late, load up with bait, and hope the forecast was wrong as we wanted to ease out deep for some groupa and cobia. Plan A was going strong as we cleared the jetties with a ton of pinfish around noon to find a flat ocean. As we approached the 4th set of cans, the ocean found itself, and the flatness was gone. We chugged along, not minding the spray from the 86 degree water, but something happened around 20 miles out. We remembered our last trip where the ocean beat us up on a day similar to this. So, we throttled back and bust on the Rapalas and plugs. We just had a chill day, trolling over various live bottom in 60-70’ all day. We stayed plenty busy with kings and spanish. From time to time, we’d like a piece of bottom and drop down some live stuff or free-line some baits or watch our jigskinz poppers get crushed. It was a fun day, but a rough day as we took several waves over the bow of the 197SF while trolling at 7mph. On paper, this trip should have stunk, but really enjoyed doing something different and just grateful that God allowed us that day and got us back safe. Thanks again, D!
Good on you Andy. At least you didn’t have sneak back in through Dewee’s Inlet like we did on our last trip out.

Good deal, Andy. Glad y’all got out and back safely.
“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”
Poveromo approved! Had a fun day as always bud, we made the right choice staying shallow and just taking what the ocean would give us.
Highlight of my day was dropping the rapala back in the spread and it getting hammered by a king on the drop! pretty cool stuff
The ocean will cooperate with us one day… it has to

Sometimes, being forced to call an audible is a great way to relax and learn. Lot’s of people are scared to take risks in fear that they might fail to load the igloo, but when you are forced to try something new and if pays off, it can be very rewarding! Congrats!
What Rapala did you use? X rap or magnum? I like both but find the x rap will troll faster. I have better luck using the wood magnums though for some reason. Thanks for the report. Any size to the kings?

I only brought 3 x-raps and plugs with me, so we used what we had. Bright orange, blue mackeral, and purple/black all got hit. They were the x25/x30 series. Should have weighed in one of our spanish as it was a beast. The kings were snakes. All the fish were around large schools of cigar minnows. Hope this helps.
