Never faced this before because my deep drop experience is limited but on other thread there are pictures of grouper caught deep with their eyes bulgeing out and stomaches comeing out of their mouths. In other situations and these fish were undersized would they survive even after venting? I am guessing no without a hyperbaric chamber on board!

they’re dead. but you have to release them. and if you deep drop 500ft, make sure only one hook is baited…

Unless I am missing something you can not bottom fish deeper than 280 feet right?

I only use…I call them release weights, instead of venting. The release weight sends them to the bottom quickly, by passing predators and let the water pressure…where they just came from… return them back to normal.

Scooting, you haven’t been keeping up with the news, have you? Looks like there is a proposal on the table (already voted in favor of) to REPEAL this stupid closure. I think we will hear more about it in the next couple of months. Technically, it is still closed at the moment.
