GPS Antenna Mounting Location

Hey guys–I’ve thawed out and back on the boards after my winter hiatus

I’m going to help a buddy install a new Lowrance FF/GPS on his 26 Grady CC and I was considering mounting his GPS antenna on top of the E-box; it’s a flat, flush mount type (not a pole mount) that came with the unit. There is about a 3 inch gap between the top of the e-box and the t-top canvas. I would center the antenna between two of the three t-top crossmembers that run fore and aft. The crossmembers would obstruct the antenna’s “view” on each side from the horizon up about 15°. The main reason I want to do this it that this would make for a clean, easy install.

The other place I thought about installing it is on the top of the console at the very front edge; mainly because that would also be very easy.

Terrible idea? Great idea? Any input would be appreciated… Thanks.

Not sure what your asking. If you are asking will it work there, I’m sure it will work either way. For me I would want it out of my field of view. Giving the options, I would put on top of the e-box(though I’m surprised that is would be an easy install).

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

If you want to hide the wire then it might be harder to do on the T-top. Mine runs inside the aluminum tubes from the top of the T-top.
