Mostly for nearshore and inshore use on a 20ft cc. Would like to keep the price below $1000. Considering Garmin 740s, Lowrance elite-7 and hds-7. Does anybody have and get any use out of sidescan in the inshore/nearshore setting? Thanks.
To answer your question about sidescan, I have the HDS7 gen2 touch and I don’t use the sidescan all too much inshore. It does have it’s uses, like looking at bridge pilings and docks, but normally you can sort of know what’s down there already.
Nearshore/offshore for reefs or finding structure in deeper water it is awesome!! I use it alot for finding that type of stuff. If you want to spend the money, they are great, but I could get plenty of use out of the elite7HDI as well.

I’m not huge in to electronics but I recently purchased a HB 859CI HD DI COMBO and it seems to be all I need and more.
I have a Garmin 441s and really like it. My only regret is not getting the bigger screen.

Simrad NSS7. Touchscreen and rotary knob. I’m still learning all the features of mine. It has a ton of capabilities for whatever you’re doing with it. Whatever you pick, get a touchscreen. It makes waypoint entering so much easier.
I have a 1 year old, barely used Lowrance elite 7 unit with the insight HD 2013 maps (coastal). Just listed on craigslist for $500. That’s a great deal on a unit that is nearly new (had it on my old boat for less than a year. Comes with original box, transducer, power cable, stand, charts above and faceplate cover. I really liked the unit, but my new boat has an older 10 inch garmin with a thru-hull transducer.
Call me at 843 4 six 9-6981 if interested.
P.S. also have a Humminbird 788 CI DI HD unit, but no transducer (also with orignal box, power cable and includes Navionics east coast gold maps). Asking $250 for that unit with maps. Also a great unit, I ran both these together.
Can’t go wrong with any Lowrance or Simrad! I’ve found that the bigger the screen the better!
I wish I had the $500.00.

George, PM sent.
If you have the $, consider the iPilot and Humminbird pair for your 20’ boat. Got it on mine and it is a big help fishing especially if you go alone a lot. See some of the posts on iPilot.
Epic Mariner, hope you got that unit installed last weekend. Thanks!
