GPS/FishFinder combo

I know this has been asked before, but what combo, around or under 1K? Main thing it needs to be real user friendly. Have Bulls Bay 2200 ordered and need to buy one before boat gets here. Thanks

Looks at the Garnin units, they seem to be best at being user friendly. The West Marine over in West Ashley had a few units on their clearance rack, dont remember what models they had.

I really like the Garmin 741xs that I have. Itms got a ton of features and easy to use. You can find them on sale every now and then

I have a Raymarine a78 and a Raymarine e7d. I love them both. The a78 is a 7" touch screen with chirp and downvision. With transducer & navionics charts it is ~$850 at west marine. It has everything you will ever need and then some.

I have a Garmin 441s I really like but, I would go bigger screen next time.

If you purchase a Garmin, and have an I-pad, you can use the Garmin Helm app to use as a secondary/ larger screen.

When you open this link, click on the compatible devices tab. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-go/apps/garmin-helm-/prod152837.html

Congrats on the Bulls Bay!

Do many of yall have the “NMEA”,(I think thats right) accessory added to your GPS/FF combo?

You can’t catch fish on a dry line

I recently bought one of the cheaper Lowrance Elite units. It has a smaller screen, but it does have the chirp, down imaging, transom transducer and the MNEA fitting. I have only used it once, but it seemed to do ok.

I really like my Raymarine Dragonfly 4 Pro

NMEA 1890 or 2000 is the computer language to output/input data from other electronics.

Say you have an AIS capable VHF. You can show the AIS targets on your chartplotter via the NMEA 2000 with cursor pinpoint to get all bearing & speed info. You can even get VHF MSNI number for a DSC VHF call, vessel name, ports recently visited, destination (if listed). With a AIS VHF outputted to a chartplotter you can “predict” course & speed collision avoidance is shipping channels while your drifting or setting up “guard areas” around your trolling/drifting boat.

NMEA 1890/2000 can output your radar data to the chartplotter so you can overlay onto the map. 4G Broadband radar MUST have NMEA 2000.

Be careful buying after market mapping “chips” as some only work with NMEA 1890 or 2000. Ask or email the question before buying.

Higher end units have NMEA 2000. Cheaper units have NMEA 1890 but slowly everyone is going NMEA 2000.

Build your n2k network. Interface your motor to plotter screen, give you a lot of vitals. Better than any gauge package.

If it fly’s, floats, or, friggs, rent it!
