My GPS screen is burned. (old Garmin GPSMAP 172) Does anyone know where to or how to fix it.
Like most electronics, you’re probably better off getting a new unit. Probably just as cost effective too.
I would like to do the same. the cost isn’t the issue it’s the 499 waypoints on the old thing I hate too lose. Bought it as a backup to my LORAN way back when they were playing with the tower maintance and have been using it as a standalone secondary unit to the multi display unit as it’s easier then flippin pages from plotter to bottom machine when your over your #'s. Mine is a pixel issue and not sure it can be fixed. Try Mt. Pleasant Radio, I understand they do good work.

Best thing for you to do is call Jeff Seacrest at Tidal Marine Electronics - my garmin literally caught on fire and he recovered all info stored and fixed the unit - he and Phillip are the best in town

Yep, Jeff is the guy to call.

My GPS map 542 was toast after 4 years. I inquired about a repair in an attempt to avoid having to spend $800 on a new unit. Garmin replaced it with an identical refurbished unit that looks and works like new for $150. You have to download your waypoints etc. first because you do not get your unit back. It took 10 days from phone call to on the water.
