GPS Setting

So, it seems like anytime I have someone steer the boat while I’m setting out the downrigger or whatever, they seem to have a hard time knowing which way to turn should we be coming up on shallow water.

It’s because I always leave my setting to north on top.
I just always have and got used to it and it doesn’t matter to me which way the boat is heading on the screen, but obviously it’s not so intuitive if you are not used to it.

Just curious, if others always have north on top of screen or boat heading on top?

Tim, I always use track up. When on a boat with someone who uses north up I have no idea where to turn.

If you have the split graph option, then you can have one show North up and the other show Course up…

Because I’m almost always moving, we prefer Course up …

Forgot to add the explanation of the various options …

North UP: This displays your chart with true north upwards. As your heading changes the boat symbol moves accordingly.

Head Up - displays chart with boat’s current heading upwards. As heading changes, boat symbol remains fixed

Course Up - chart picture stabilized, current course upwards. Boat symbol moves as heading changes.

Yep … Saturday was a much better day than Sunday … Sunday sucked - broke off an easy 12 pounder right at the boat

I’m like you Tim. North is up and I’m used to it being that way. I’ll change it occasionally, but I seem to get confused easier.

I’ve been taught over the last 60 years that north is always up! Its ingrained into my brain, what little is left of it!

I’m in the North is up camp on this. I get confused watching the whole lake spin on my GPS when spot-locked.
