Hey Yall,
Heading down to the Chas Boat show to look at the GPS trolling motors. Any advice, tips or mfgrs you like.
(looking for something for the jetties)
Thanks in advance.

The new spot lock feature on the new Minn Kota trolling motors is night and day from previous years. It’s far more accurate and dependable. I’m not a big fan of the Ulterra models (power lift and stow) because they’ve seem to have more issues with that model. My first pick would be the Terrova and my second pick would be the Power Drive.

I’ve never been a fan of Motor Guide, especially their saltwater models.

I have the Minn Kota 36v Terrova on my 22 bay boat. Absolutely love the TM. The spot lock feature is great and you can actually jog your boat forward, backward, left and right from your locked position with the push of a button. It will move in 10’ increments I believe. I have been on a boat with the new MotorGuide TM and I was not impressed. It kept losing signal, the materials felt flimsy and just looked cheap. Just my opinion as I’m sure there are people that are happy with them.

I think the MK is way ahead of the MG!
Thanks!
We have a 17ft KW. Heard the 112lb thrust was worth the extra money than 80lb thrust. I am aware we need an extra battery for it but is the marine charger needed?
Again, ya’ll know how nutz it is on an outgoing moon tide. No one ever stays in the right place, but to be able to not fight that dang anchor. Epic. (I am the anchor girl and had a few sailor words-once.)
I have the minn kota 24 volt,80 lb. thrust on my 19 ft. sundance skiff and it works great.Been in heavy winds and currents and kept me steady with the anchor lock.I would think it would do well on your boat and is money well spent.I use it at the little river jetties with no problems either.
Minn Kota Riptide 80 lb thrust on the 16 ft flats boat, guys at Charleston Marine installed it. You can’t go wrong at all with this one. Probably has a lot of features that I haven’t even figured out yet

80# thrust is more than adequate on a 17 keywest.
112# would be a complete waste of money, and I get paid to sell and install trolling motors

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
stop by and see us out front of the boat show with Bomb Island, we will have a Minn Kota Ulterra rigged on the new Bomb island that will be fully functional

I have had an MK Riptide Ulterra 80 on my Scout 201 for a year. Flawless operation! Does everything and more you need in a trolling motor IMO.

I use the iPilot MK Riptide 80lb on a 20ft TwinVee… wish I had more thrust because I’ve tagged a few pylons when the tide and wind work with each other. But it’s low profile and almost always a joy to operate! The “anchor” function is cool but I wish I could upgrade to the more accurate newer technology.
