A buddies son is graduating from HS and will be attending CofC. They have been freshwater fisherman all their lives. He will want to do some saltwater fishing and I thought a basic box with inshore tackle is a good idea for Grad gift.
Just want some ideas to make sure I haven’t left anything out. So far:
Circle hooks 1/0-3/0
Pyramid weights
Egg weights
Split shot weights
Fish finder rigs
1/8 & 1/4 jig heads
20# leader (spool)
swivels
Off set worm hooks for weedless rigging
Floats
Clear plastic boxes for gear.
I know I am forgetting a couple of main ingredients.
What a great gift! Good idea.
I use a small tape measure that fits in my pocket to measure fish, but the “Carolina Law Sticks” fold down, wont rust and have the limits written on them. It will fit in the box. Try Haddrels.

Thanks for the replies guys. Keep them coming. I have one more week before the grad party.
I have added:
“Carolina Law stick” College kid can’t afford any fines
Pro-Knot guide
first aid kit
Floats=popping corks (couldn’t think of right name when making post)
I wold love to give gulps but I can barely afford them. I think I will stay away from lures and soft plastics. That seems to be a personal choice.

Dolphin D is a fish whistle kin to a dog whistle?
Couple stocking stuffers (free crap):
Fish ruler from any fishing store. The free bumper sticker kind.
Koozie (for holding ‘soft’ drink) from one of the fishing stores with the fishing store’s name on it. If you tell them it is for your buddy’s kids birthday, they would be smart to throw one in the bag. If not… one of the guys on here has offered free koozies from his insurance company or something.
Field and Stream makes an awesome back pack style tackle bag. It’s even got an insulated pouch in the top for a couple cold…cokes. Back pack style bag would come in handy for a college student with no boat. I use mine for everything from wading in salt marsh to hiking in to remote mountain streams. I bought mine at Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Everyone is destined for greatness…the rest is up to you.
Not quite. It is silent whistle, but instead of a high pitch noise, it results in a pleasant smell and good attitudes that seem to just bring the fish in!
that’s a great gift idea. sounds like you got it pretty much covered with your list, too. don’t know how much you’re looking to spend, but a few weedless spoons or top-waters would be good. you could rack up a big price tag in a hurry if you’re not careful though.
My 2 cents on the floats…I like the small, torpedo shaped fluorescent floats, the ones that clip to the line on the top and bottom of the float. These seem to cast pretty well, as opposed to some of the larger popping corks. they will still make plenty of commotion with a little jerk to attract fish. they take up less room than some other poppers I’ve tried as well as the the “cajun” corks that slide up and down a metal rod with beads on it. I also prefer the clip on type of floats to these cajuns, because of the ease of taking them off and on. It only takes a second to unclip the float and add a splitshot or two, and I have a bottom rig. Take some weight off and clip the cork back on and I’m back on top. just my opinion. again, that’s an awesome idea for a gift.
