Grandson's first spot tail

My grandson arrived Wednesday for a month long visit. He loves to fish. Last year we caught alot of trout and flounder, this year he wanted a red… His first was an in slot at 18.5" and I got the second fish at 25". Both caught on Z-Man Paddlers

Sweet, some of my fondest memories are of the Summers I spent with my grandparents in Beaufort, crabbing and fishing.

My granddad called them spottails as well. Not sure when they became red fish.

Loved fishing with my grandfather. He could catch fish in a mud puddle. Watch him catch 13 bass with a cane pole and a dandelion for bait. He also called them spot tail. Congrats on the first reds, nice catch.

Congrats to him…good job!

That’s great. There’s nothing like the smile on a kid’s face when they catch a big fish.

My dad still calls them spot tail bass.

Couldn’t agree more… the smile says it all. It’s funny, I had thought I needed to put him on some bottom rigs with live bait, but I couldn’t find a mud minnow for the cast net to save my life. So, we fished what we had which were the Z-Man’s. I could tell he was discouraged when we hadn’t caught something within the first 15 minutes but after he caught his fish his confidence soared. Just not sure who will cherish the memories more…
