I’m considering buying a used 2014 boat that is beige/tan in color and has some stupid name on it in decals. I’m aware that the decals can be removed. Wondering how much discoloration to expect (only a 2 year old boat) due to fading and if it’s the kind of thing that a good cleaning and waxing will make unnoticeable. What’s been your experience with this kind of thing? Owner tells me that he removed one of the letters to show another prospective buyer and there is “slight discoloration” but I haven’t seen a good pic of this and haven’t seen boat in person yet. It is a long drive to get to this boat, so trying to do lots of homework before taking that plunge.
I had same problem , cleaning and waxing will help but not fix !
Takes more effort but compound/polishing/rewax and buffing gives best results.
I’ve heard real good reports from some that used Tall Sail marine in/around Chas.

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Will, I did this on my dark blue hull that was a little over a year old. I need to compound and wax it one more time but it looks fine. You have to be looking hard to tell anything was on it.

Thanks for both of your replies. Sounds like its not something that should be a deal breaker in buying the boat anyway. Lee, maybe I need you to come over and give me a tutorial if/when this deal goes down. Then, let me know when I can follow you to Bimini.

use a heat gun and razor blade to remove decals. then block wetsand with 800grit sandpaper.machine buff with heavyduty compound to remove scratches then follow up with restorer and wax.
“DO NOT USE RAZOR BLADE PLEASE” [:0] , use what is called an eraser it is an attachment made to fit on a drill or a buffer, made by 3m or other body shop suppliers, to remove the decal, it will take the decal and glue off without hurting the finish, if there is fading you can water sand with a da sander using 2000 grit then move to 5000 grit and use a good compound like 3m or G3 Farcala and a polishing pad, and you will have no shadow of the decal left on the gel coat:smiley: This is what i do for a living,
plastic razor blade for the decals…and a heat gun. found mine at ace hardware here.
