Twelve inch minimum FL size limit on gray triggerfish beginning July 1.

I don’t like extra/new regulations but in this case and the hogfish size limit it’s almost necessary to keep some people (SE Florida, some here too I guess) from hammering the juveniles.

They keep 10in fish and a 14in fish is a trophy to some of them.

If it’s not at least 12, it ain’t worth cleaning. The larger ones are found deeper.

No doubt. I would like to see hogfish size move up as well. They could slide it an inch every couple of years.

12 on a trigger is fine. I’ve never even seen a hog under ~20 here so I wouldn’t worry about them. That limit is more for south Florida where the hogs get very pressured. It wouldn’t surprise me if all hogs here grew up there since I’ve never once seen a juvenile here.

On the trigger smashing trips ive been on (thanks g2g!) we usually are already downsizing on hooks to get the bite. I dont know what kind of hook size you would need to even get hold of a 11.5" triggerfish, but I would guess they dont make them in 4x

Come on! You've definitely seen a hog less than 4-5 lbs. You've never seen the ones here that are just bigger than your hand?

12 inches good. Cant recall catching to many under 12 inches, but you know how men measure:smiley:
