Graysby worth keeping

I’ve been catching a few grasby on trips to the ledge lately and I wondered if you all thought they were worth keeping. They are basically a seabass sized grouper that counts against your total of 3. Are they anything special?

Never tried one myself, but have sold them as regular grouper. I’d keep em if the scamp and gag weren’t biting

One of the best eating of all groupers! Kitty Mitchel (aka Speckled Hind) were always my favorite before they banned them, but Graysbes and Coneys are a close second with Strawberry (red hind) next. Scamps and yellowmouth next.

Hm…I have brought a few of the over the rail lately. Did not think to keep them. Now I know thanks Sells.

They are shark bait and I need lots of it. So I will take them off your hands if you like!!! They are awesome to eat

Tastes like a gag or scamp to me.

Catch a few of those and have a couple big gals on the boat with you and you have yourself a thread of epic proportions…

OK so I kept the first one that came over the side yesterday and of course it bit us in the ass once the four of us put 11 solid scamps into the box right after. I’ll try it tonight and see how well it eats. Sorry for the cell phone picture. I left my good camera knowing that increases our chances of having a better day.

OK I am now a believer. They are awesome. Sweet, not at all mushy, and hardly require any seasoning. I did a quick adobo marinade with a quick cast iron sear then a 5 min braise and it turned out to be the best fish I’ve had this year. I hoped to present it better but I couldn’t keep my girlfriend away from it.
