Fished Castle Pickney yesterday , caught 1 good sized sharp-nose. Hooked onto a monster cow nose ray. We tried to net it to try to get a picture but neither of us could hoist it out of the water. It was a really exciting fight. While fishing for bait, we caught a small eel,and and several juvenile BSB. We ended up trolling around Drum Island and Daniel Island and we lucked upon 4 16 inch trout, but the craziest part was that we got a hook up on a grub, the trout cut the line as we got it to the boat, and a second later the same trout hit the other plug while it was just sitting in the water.
Nice report. Castle Pickney holds some good fish and you would be surprised by what you can catch around Drum Island. Years ago I hooked on something I couldn’t turn. My fishing partner said it was tarpon but I was too green on inshore fishing at the time to confirm

We are lucky to have so much biodiversity in such a small area. I don’t doubt that it was a tarpon, always see something new every time I go.

Where is a good place besides the Jetties to catch sheephead? I want to take the wife out and I am not sure where to go. Any help would be appreciated.

Allenhawk - close to ocean, structure and my personal theory is that structure needs to be alone. When there is structure everywhere in an area, they spread out. If you go left from folly landing, there 5 million docks in long rows. There are lots of sheeps there, but you have to find them. The old sunken boat near there that the river fascists removed was loaded. If you try solo structure, and they are there, the density should be greater. When there are multiple fish, the sheeps run with the bait more often to get away from competing fish, making them easier to hook. Also, I do a lot of gigging for them, and i have noticed that SOMETIMES in a row of docks they will pile up one dock or even one piling. So if nothing steals your fiddler after you have tried the accessible of the pilings, KEEP MOVING to another structure. Sheeps don’t cruise like reds or trout. Think of them like flounder. They are structure fish, so they hide rather than run and are not as spooky as Trout or Reds. You can park right over them. Low tide will also help insure that they are piled up for you instead of spread out. Just pick a dock that holds min 3’ of water on deepest pilings at low tide. Capers and Dewees docks are good examples, but there plenty in the harbor and Folly. Oh and don’t believe that the population is hurting. I have seen over 100 in one night! They are there! Good Luck

those are horrible spots, I’d stick to the places in the harbor where all the other boats are
Peapod - you’ve been skunked there too, huh?
i fished for sheeps for the first time this spring at the coal shute and did very well!! it is addictive as crap!!
Thanks guys. I have been catching a lot of reds but want to get some sheeps.

Where is the best place to put in to get to Capers inlet?

Depending upon what kind of boat you have, you could put in at Garris landing and head south. Low tide is real skinny. A little further north is Buck Hall. IOP also has a landing but they charge.
