I Have not posted in quite sometime, not worthy of you guy’s! But after reading the posts this year, I thought this was worth posting. Just like everyone else we have been fising hard, catching 1 or 2 meat fish trolling or nothing at all. Saturday we struck gold!!! Left the dock @ 0530 set a course for the Edisto Bouy. 2 miles shy of the bouy @ 0740 we started dropping the second line back, the first line starts screeming 10-12 lb bontia released. Start putting lines out again, had 3 lines out, short rigger goes off another bonita. We get to the bouy, 3 lines start screaming, 2 barracuda released, then nothing for four hours. We find wood everywhere in 150 ft 1 dolphin in the boat (slinger). We trolled thru the debris for 45 minutes not another bite. Then went OLD SCHOOL, broke out the spinning rods and some cut squid and ballyhoo, eased up to a floating board and 2 minutes later 3 more dolphin in the boat, next board my wife starts screaming LOOK AT ALL THE DOLPHIN there must have been 15-20 schooling around that board, we boated 7 more. To me, my wife, and son (who have been fishing with me for the past 8 years) this was a GREAT DAY and worthy of posting on this site.
Great report. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely never get tired of seeing them school up under some wood. Even better to be able to share with your wife and kid. Congrats!

lynnmcd, Yes they do add up
Good job, those schoolies are a lot of fun on light tackle
Just want to clairify the size of the dolphin, kept 10 of them between 8-12 lbs released the smaller 1 might have gone 4 lbs. These are what I consider slingers
great job, everybody gets their day

I caught my first one on a spinning rod in May of '07. It is an unbelievable experience, and you got to share it w/ the fam! Very cool.
Friendship is like peeing on yourself: everyone can see it, but only you get the warm feeling that it brings.
TARPONCHASER, I caught my largest dolphin, on a spinning rod, back in '99. 48 lbs ! best part of the trip was my wife and son were on their first ever offshore trip. they have been hooked ever since and the boat does not leave the yard without them gotta love it.
Hey Mahi, we must have hit the same lumber you did that day on our way back in from SW Banks. We found a huge school of peanut/slingers that we played with for about an hour. Probably caught around 25 on ballyhoo and squid on spinning gear, kept 15 or so. Awesome way to end the day. Let’s hope this weekend offers up another opportunity!

Magezzi, Very well could have been, we were on our way back from the SW Banks also, could not have asked for a much better day on the water under very difficult fishing conditions this year. Hope to get into them again
Sounds like a great trip.
Go fish and hunt far and wide day by day - farther and wider - and rest thee by many brooks and hearth-sides without misgiving. Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth. Rise free from care before the dawn, and seek adventures. Let the noon find thee by other lakes, and the night overtake thee everywhere at home. There are no larger fields than these, no worthier games than may here be played.
