Great fishing Saturday - why?

I fished Friday and had a good day. I went out again Saturday and had a rediculous good day, literally the best I’ve ever had. Sunday, from what I gather, was good but not nearly like Friday.

From reports I’ve seen and people I’ve contacted and spoke with, it was pretty much the same deal. Saturday was awesome.

Can anyone speculate as to why?

I’m just constantly amazed at the why’s of nature.

Here’s my opinion. Wind was horrible Monday through Wednesday which kept the water stirred up and the water temps. were dropping fast. My water temps. dropped 10 degrees between Sunday and Thursday morning. Fishing was tough Thursday as it seemed they were in shock. Friday was a bit windy but nothing like the previous days with a warming trend. Fish bit better Friday but not wide open. Water temp. came up 3-4 degrees Friday afternoon. Saturday morning was cool but not as cool as previous mornings and the water temp went up 3-4 degrees more during the day from what it had been in several days past. They bit well on the outgoing but went crazy on the warm incoming Saturday. I just think it took a few days to get used to the cooler temps., but when the weather turned, they took an opportunity to feed heavily before the next big blow came which is happening now. Shrimp are pouring out of the smaller creeks and back reaches of all rivers right now and all fish are taking advantage. IMO, fish bite best this time of year the first day the weather turns for the worse, then it gets tough until the first day it turns for the better. In other words, they eat better when there is a fairly substantial barametric change(up or down). Like any other aspect of fishing, though, this doesn’t always hold true, but more times than not, it’s a good rule to go by.

Thanks RAD… Sage advice right there

they also know big fast water is on the way (big tides). but about 11/19, barring any major cold fronts, i gotta feeling they are gonna start eating hard again.

Rad that is some great insight. I fished early on Friday and the bite was not very aggressive, just a slight tick. It was cold that night and early that morning. The fish we found were holding in shallow water as the sun got up. These were trout. I always notice the trout react more to the barometer I always attributed it to their large swim bladders. Thanks for sharing some great information and great question as well Vince.

Agreed with Apickett. I was out Friday too, the bite was very, very gentle. They didn’t want the bait to be doing anything but barely drifting.

Gratefulred you posted while I was posting that is a very good point as well.

From a weather perspective, looked like a perfect chain of events. Had been cooler, windy and barometer was rising for a few days during the week. On Saturday, the wind calmed, the temps had been rising and barometer, although still high, had been stabilized for a day. All good weather events to turn the bite back on. For me, everything else is just a guessing game! Even the weather piece is a guessing game on the day of, easy to look back on it and see it!

those fish warmed up and got active. We had fish jumping over each other chasing our fly’s on the flats that morning.

Thanks for the interesting points by all. And thanks Raddaddy for you great response on this and other topics that have popped up. Your insight on each subject has been helpful and I appreciate your sharing the knowledge.

I was going to offer an opinion on the day but I was truly mystified as to why it went so well. These comments helped make it make sense for me. Good days often make me wonder more than bad.
