Great report

First I had to get fiddlers at south side bait n tackle because no one else had any. Lets just say there not cheaper by the dozen $3.99. I made it to the hole at about noon, anchored no bites, re-anchored game on. I had to anchor twice because the wind was stronger than the current and it wouldn’t let me drift over any so I had to anchor strait up and down close to the structure. I caught about 7 sheeps, a black drum and a spot, my pops caught about 6 sheeps and a nice red. We fished about 3 hrs total with the first 30 and last 30 slow not landing anything, top of the incoming to top of the out going, started out dark and windy and ended sunny calm. The water was really clear, like see your fiddler clearly 3ft down. Caught fish on top and side of structure from about 4ft deep to probably 15 (no depth finder). At one point you couldn’t keep a bait on the hook, they would hit it on the fall, rise or bottom. I was hoping to fish the tide down a little longer to try and see if the trout were biting since this spot was close to a trout spot but left early with the fish biting. As usual the big one got away, a few spit hooks, popped lines and hang ups. All fish were caught on a short Carolina rig, or similar rig that I looped the weight so it was fixed about 9 inches above the hook, all rigs were just braid because I had no flouro. The bass was in the channel at dead high-tide and was 25 inches and hit right after I cast and handed the pole to my pops. He was laying down half a sleep and had to wake up for a nice little fight and his first decent size red in many years (he’s good at losing them). I fished a very popular spot in the folly area and about 7 boats came by and you could tell they were disappointed they weren’t the early bird, 2 boats did fish close to me both fished the bank at dead high basically and the other with the top of the outgoing, the second boat caught 2 bass in like 30 mines and the fish were biting when I left so they probably got into them. When I went to pull anchor it was hung

The hottest bite was around 1:30 to 2:15. Also used mussels and oyster and caught some sheeps, the black drum was on a marsh mussel formally called a sweet grass mussel. The red was on half a large mullet I froze in November.

Hell yea Cory! Good on ya to get your pops out there! Tell him I said hello. I’ll be back to visit you soon enough. Only 3 more months til the spring troll! Gear up, it’s gonna be a fun 2017!
