Grey Mercury Fuel Line

I don’t want to start a big discussion about ethanol because I know it is the culprit. But I was adding a fuel/water separator to my boat and decided to change all the gas lines. I was absolutely amazed at how much junk was in my fuel lines, filter, and god knows where else that came from the deteriorating fuel line. The liner had come apart and I had all these little 1/8 x 1/8 brown plastic squares floating around in the gas line. I am in the process of changing out my in-line filter for the 3rd time because it is clogged from all the debris. If you haven’t changed your old line you definitely want to do it as soon as possible before something major happens.

If you have an older plastic tank, they sometimes will also ‘degrade’ pieces/parts into the fuel system.

The tank is a 2002 but what do I know??!! Went to pick up a new in-line fuel filter and the guy told me that the brown stuff was the ethanol forming a “liner” in the gas line and was just breaking off. Fun stuff!!

that is correct
its left over gunk coating the inside of the fuel lines

That stuff is terrible, I ran my engine for an hour today and it was running like a scalded dog. All of a sudden it sputtered out and died. Checked the in-line filter and it was clogged again. Emptied out the brown stuff by shaking it and banging it against the boat. Hopefully I won’t have to do this too many more times. I guess the old anti-syphon valve didnt keep it out of the tank and now I am paying the price.
