First trip to the grillage today. got there about an hour before low tide
boats all around us cathcing reds. We weren’t real prepared. Had some finger mullet dead and alive. Didnt catch squat.
So whats the deal. What bait? What rig? how much weight?
where is this magical place ?
It’s basically in the harbor between Folly and Sullivans. The easiest way to identify it is to look for the place that looks, for all intents and purposes, to be a free-floating marina out in the harbor.

The peanut gallery can be so much help around here sometimes. Why not just answer the original question. Unless you can’t answer it and just want to get your post count up.
When fishing the grillage WHAT I DO, is lineup the 2 red cans and try to get in water that is 28-42 feet deeo, some people fish deeper but that’s not what I like. Depending on the current you will need at least 2 ounces of weight and possibly as much as 8oz. I use 30lb line and use a sinker slide rig above a 2-3 foot leader of either 60 or 80lb test. If the sharks are around you may need to step up to 100 or 125lb leader. The fish at the grillage will eat anything put in front of them, Crab, mullet, menhaden, cut ladyfish or spanish, the list goes on. I fish with both cut baits and live baits and usually fish 3-5 rods with a little of everything. Try to remember what bait is on which rod so you can get a feel for what the fish are biting. Good luck, those big fish can be a lot of fun to catch.

Screw you Fritz!
Feelin’ the love on a Sunday morning
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.
