Went out with MissEmily on Saturday the 20th and had a great time. We had a mixed bag crew with 3 divers, 1 fisherman, and two observers. The day started at the barge on the Charleston 60 where we only found pinfish and short grouper. We decided to do a quick dive since our underwater drop camera was out of battery. The water was cold and green and 63 degrees with only about 8’ of viz. There weren’t any good fish that we could see so we picked up and headed out to 110’ and immediately found some grouper that were weary of us. While I was retrieving and anchor that we lost the last trip, a 35" gag grouper (pictured below) made the mistake of coming in to say hello. He tore off the spear but it was a good hit and he made it half way into a hold in the ledge and flushed out a lobster in the process. I had my hands full with the fish and so I let the bug go for another day. There were easily 8 other gags her size in shooting range. The water was super blue and I could see the hull of the boat 59’ down the anchor rope. Before killing the grouper we killed a half dozen lion fish and brought some up to the boat for chunk bait. We spent our last dive mostly on recovering gear from the spot that we had lost on a previous trip. Our angler on board did a great job of loading the fish box with fat trigger fish and some BSBs. It was a great day on the water and the seas laid out perfectly on the way in.
