Black Angus and I Took a couple of BBQ legends offshore with us on Tuesday. We had John Haney who builds Alveron grills in Summerville, Phil Wingo the owner of Pork Mafia from Chicago and Othell Driggers rounded out the crew. Was a beautiful day on the ocean and it was pretty easy to make bait before heading deep. Stopped at the ledge and easily caught a limit of jumbo b-liners and pinkies. Pushed off a little deeper and it was on with the grouper. We also caught three lionfish and five scorpionfish. Phil had a good work out fighting a couple of large sandbar sharks, and we also got to watch a 15 foot hammerhead tried to destroy anAtlantic sharp nose shark. Stuff you don’t see in Chicago every day.

Nice job, Paul.
I agree with Capt Fritz. I bought a new trolling motor with the anchor feature just for fishing underwater structure in deep water. It’s tough to anchor on a spot in water over 100’ deep…at least it is for me. Some of my buddies are now going to the self-deploying trolling motors so they don’t have to get up on the bow in choppy waters.

Before I sold my Sportsman 211 I had a 36V Minnkota with spot lock, it made all the difference at the wrecks where you have to be right on top of the structure. Anchoring at those places can take a while to get it right. Spot lock takes all the work out of it.
