The state record for African Pompano was broken yesterday on my friends boat. Captain David Yates of Yatesea Charters had a client catch a Pompano just over 43 pounds. It was certified today by the DNR. Also, I think for it to count as a state record it must be caught on a rod and reel.
If that wasn’t the case, my brother would hold every shark state record (except tiger shark) and many others…

Roger that K@W I think he meant if someone knew where to go they could catch one with conventional tackle. These guys probably have broken the state record on grouper a million times over if spears were allowed. Somebody said it best earlier. You guys are having too much fun.

I meant with the right intel on location, depth, and bait someone could catch them with a rod and reel and break the state record for African Pompano.
If spearfishing counted towards state records I would have quite a few.

I have read this entire thread. I keep reading about the nice fish. For the life of me, I can’t find the fish. And I sure can’t imagine getting fired up about diving and leaving that crew on the boat. Hmmm…priorities, I suppose.

The problem with seeing the fish is the back drop that they are using, it distracts from the fish they are tring to show off. I think that is what i am tring to say, hell who knows. They are still having to much fun, that I am sure of.
