Paraflex is my best recommendation.
The Ugly Stik is a great rod but have seen a few of them come back with busted reel seats.
Shimano screwed themselves with the warranty, BUT the Trevala is still an awesome rod.
Penn Carnage and Rampage rods are worth taking a look at, lesser expensive than the ones listed above, except the Ugly Stik

Great reel, I love mine. SCFISHERMAN is right though, keep the butt end short so you can move around the boat easy. I brought my surf rod out there last year. Tough to move around and crank.

Agree on the Star Paraflex.
I walked into Courtlandâs shop one day and he put one through the ringer for me. I was impressed enough to buy one. I may need a little bigger reel on mine, but the rod is top-notch. If you donât want to spend the money for the paraflex, the Ugly Stik Tiger Lite is not bad for someone on a tighter budget. I keep a couple of them on the boat for friends to use. Borderline indestructible.
