Circle hook and I rolled out of the jetties before 6 and eased out to a spot where I suspected snapper would be. Found a few on a little ridge about 100ft long and 8ft wide. Scattered live bottom around the ridge for about 50ft in all directions. Bait and B liners were schooling around on the outskirts, but the bigger fish appeared to be holding tight on the structure. Forgot my normal style anchor, but fortunately sellsfish let us borrow his mighty mite for the day. This is where I could type a normal phin-length rant about how this anchor really messed us up all morning, but I won’t. The thing hit the bottom right where you dropped it, but it just won’t work for the way I fish I’m afraid. I’ll leave it at that and be thankful we had something to use yesterday. Maybe I need to see sellsfish set up with it or something.
Pulled some short snapper off the first spot before finally getting two keepers in the boat. The biggest was about 7 lb. Also got one 5 or 6 lb scamp off that spot when we finally got positioned correctly. Moved on to another spot, and we got mostly 11.9" sea bass there. Must have been some of those numbers of mine that skinnee sold on eBay…
We hit the 3rd and final area knowing we only had about 15 minutes to fish it since I had to be back at 12 for a function with my girlfriend’s family. Wouldn’t you know it, the anchor didn’t catch, and as we drug through the area we just kept fishing in a last ditch effort to get something. Suddenly, circle hook and I both pulled up three 19" gags at the same time, and before circle hook could get his unhooked off his rig, the big rod went down hard and he cranked a 22 lb gag into the boat. Just couldn’t leave them like that, so we got the anchor in the boat and tried to motor fish them. They weren’t falling for it again. Did the best I could in the wind to hold the baits there long enough. Two gags played with our baits momentarily but wouldn’t/couldn’t swallow them. At least we know where some are for next time now…
You should have gone to your red snapper spot!!! Looks like a one hit wonder in the making!!! You better start putting Circle Hook on some more fish pretty soon or he might stop fishing with you. And if you need to borrow an anchor sometime, I got a mushroom that you can borrow any time you need it.

I understand how a mushroom anchor, some crabbing line, and a boat fender are all you need to get on the fish when you’re diving, but I need a little better equipment than that when fishing with my more primative techniques.
That’s all you need for bottom fishing man. Just need a clorox bottle with some fishing line wrapped around it and some 16oz sinkers on the bottom. Mark your spot with the bottle and fish next to it. When you drift back, just pull back up to the clorox bottle and drop lines again. People have been doing this for thousands of years. As a matter of fact, it’s the reason why Clorox bottles were invented. They didn’t start putting clorox in them until years later. Give it a shot sometime! Just don’t forget to pick up your clorox bottle before you leave or you have marked the secret spot for the next guy. Plus, it’s much easier than pulling the anchor!

I thought clorox jugs were made to make water bailing scoops out of all this time…

That is another use. They are basically like a marine swiss army knife and have many uses.
You can also cut a hole in the side of it and put the handle through your belt loop. Put all of your squid and cigar minnows inside the jug and voila, you never have to reach into the bait bucket again since you are holding it on your hip! You can submit that one to SWS for me…

It appears you have spent quite some time on headboats as well as dangerous center consoles if you know the bait holder and the bilge bailer tricks.
I would never step foot on a center console boat. I hear those things don’t even float right side up… I hear that they make good fishing spots though, once they sink.

What if I go in a boat without a center console… like a boat with just a bench seat and a hand tiller motor? 4ki with a 60HP tiller is a great team building exercise to take co-workers on.

Not sure. You'll have to ask the expert on that topic. I just learned this stuff from another thread in the offshore discussion.

I heard that he still doesn’t have his bottom fishing wings from the CF.com peanut gallery either…
Where do you keep getting all of your misinformation from? Is there some service or something we can subscribe to in order to stay as misinformed as you?
So what is the deal!?! I just bought 40 bottles of Clorox and now you are telling me this is some kind of joke? I ruined my jorts! Now they are WAY over bleached. I was going to put bait in some, crackers, sandwiches, my helicopter lures, some Bill Dance offshore fish formula, and the rest I was going to fill with gas to add extra fuel capacity.
You guys are wrong. I hope you will send me a check for all this crap!
Due to financial constraints the light at then end of the tunnel has been turned off until further notice.
