weather was iffy when we got to shem creek this am, we were already there so thought we would try it anyhow. ride out was good with a NW wind, but got a little wet at 10 mi. got out to 70’ and did a bottom drop.vis about 15’ and the gags were all over the place! missed ques, broken shafts and piss poor shooting and grouper that got smart quick, ending the dive with a few goog keepers. did our surface interval there as we left a 30lb.gag on the bottom with 2 holes and a tip in him. fishing was slow but managed to boat a few more grouper, triggers and red porgys. second dive the viz was alittle less but the temp was perfect, ended up with 6 gags and some other bottom dwellers, ride in at 30 as the seas had laid down.great day on the water with auggie dog, james c,and under contract.
Fishnbarrels; We did go down specifically in the same spot to try to recover the big gag, but no dice. There were some really deep and narrow holes in the ledge, probably 8-10’, with no exit. Unfortunately, **** happens ocassionally.
Sells; Totally different area. Loaded with gags that were not willing to play much with hook and line.
I can’t say diving here off Charleston has been one of my favs. The hubband calls me a chicken which just ticks me off, but not enough to get me back down there so far. Something about not being able to see what’s coming at me really bothers me?! But those pics make me want to try again instead of staying on the boat and taking in gear and fish! Got a brand new low profile regulator and A.B. Biller 52" that have only gotten wet once this summer down in the Keys! Nice trip - thanks for sharing, guys!
How deep were you diving if you don’t mind me asking? Jack and his buddies who dive off Charleston dive a bit too deep I think, but since I don’t go down with them I couldn’t say if they were at 65 feet or 110 feet… Can’t see anything but their bubbles from my view!
