Anyone been trolling grubs yet with any luck
Water is still a little warm for that. At least it is up my way.
Okay… Trolling grubs - for what? Trout? Inquiring minds want to know. Have not done much “Winter” fishing around here!
Yea trout when the first Nor easter blows and the water temp reaches about 68 degrees the shrimp leave and the trout go crazy for them in about 6 to 8 feet of water slow trolled
It’s true! Slow enough to bump bottom and and enough grubs n jigs to where you’re not scared to let em hit bottom/snag! Get em!

Have to try it. When u get one on u stop and fish that area or circle back and troll through again? Seems logical to just start pitching artificials in the area for a few…
“”“water temp about 68 degrees the shrimp leave “””" Just a question----Do the shrimp ever leave??? I have been and not caught mullet for bait, but seems shrimp are always around??? I mean do they hibernate or something??? where would they go?

We tried yesterday for about an hour after work…no luck. The tide was really moving because of the full moon so it was hard to stay slow. Used a white gulp swimming mullet and a rootbeer Zman shad and didnt get a bite. I did get hung in the grass and bottom a couple times…
Don’t give up maybe a bit to early , Ive had good luck with a good old fashioned Christmas tree curly tail grubs which are getting harder and harder to find because of the popularity of the swim baits Folly river and upper Wando are good places to start. Late November you will find 30 boats up around Beresford creek all trolling. If you don’t bump the bottom every now and then you are not getting down deep enough. Also kick the boat out of gear from time to time because the grubs tend to ride up in a strong tide when trolling against the tide. Also I generally don’t stop the boat unless its a big fish GOOD LUCK
toppyblue, In answer to your question about where do the shrimp go, They don’t really leave but they migrate out to the estuaries and congregate in deep holes below the thermocline. that’s why trolling is so good in mid Nov Some guys know where these holes are and do pretty good with ultra heavy cast nets. In mid Nov you can still find some shrimp in small creeks bunched up but they are hard to come by
talk to a guy last weekend at wapoo cut he said he was trolling up the stono. Had a few trout he said. Talked to a man today. deephole 40ft. Limited out. Personally I have never thrown a net in 40ft of water hoping to hit bottem. wouldn’t even know what to look for.
Penny has the deep hole dialed in with a micrometer! I need a boat.
Umm, you gonna eat that?

Man this is a lot of knowledge in reference to shrimp that I didn’t have a clue to the answer. It’s guys like all of you that makes this site worth reading and defining my fishing skills/craft from live to artificial baits. What I really need to know is who’ll be giving the wisdom of throwing a cast net?

Try a mud minnow on your jig head instead of the plastic when you are trolling, it seems to entice bigger trout although the biggest I ever catch is at daylight and dusk on spooks or rebel popping plugs.
You can’t catch fish on a dry line
I never thought of using minnows on the jigs while I trolled them, but then, the bait is gone when I start trolling grubs too. I may have to try that when the H20 temp gets into the right range.
I have caught trout with MM on a jig head while trolling from my kayak. It surprised me because I initially just forgot to reel in a line before I started paddling. I hear this ziiiiinnnngggg and realize it is my line. Thought I was hung up but nope. Caught 6 - 7 more that day the same way. Sometimes being stupid can be a learning experience.
